Dawnspire Session 7 Recap: The Dragon, The Prism, and DISASTER AT SEA
In the shadow of Thornhaven’s tightening grip, the city-state of Dawnspire has become both fortress and target. Supplies grow thin, faith wavers, and whispers of war echo through the streets. Yet even as the tide of conflict rises, a handful of heroes—21 brave, reckless, and often outmatched adventurers—continue to strike back against the darkness.
These are the chronicles of three decisive missions that shaped the course of this campaign—their triumphs, their sacrifices, and the ruin that followed.
The Burning Line
Captain Hargraves dispatched a covert strike force to cripple a Thornhaven supply base that sustained the blockade in the island’s northeast. The team ambushed an enemy outpost, stole guard uniforms, and infiltrated the base under cover of night.Their deception turned into enemy devastation: a fireball ignited the heart of the encampment, incinerating the bulk of the garrison. But as flames consumed the compound, a black dragon descended from the clouds. The ensuing battle was brutal and costly, yet the adventurers prevailed, slaying the beast and torching the remaining ships.
They returned to Dawnspire battered but victorious, towing spoils and dragon relics in their wake—and with them, the captured Thornhaven captain they’d buried alive to prevent his escape. The enemy’s supply chain was shattered. A major, thrilling victory!
The Prism of Accord
At the same time, Glubb, Hargraves’ goblin lieutenant, summoned a new band of defenders to safeguard a relic of ancient power—the Prism of Accord. The artifact, said to hold dominion over peace itself, was under heavy guard when Thornhaven infiltrators breached the chamber from above. In the chaos, one spellcaster grasped the Prism, triggering a vision that transported the group into a spectral realm. There they met Lachlan, the artifact’s long-dead creator, who confessed his folly: the Prism, forged for good, inevitably corrupted all who sought to wield it. Its power, he warned, must be destroyed.
Following Lachlan’s plea, the adventurers traversed tar pits, underground caverns, and the skeletal remains of a dragon god, pursued by agents of Thornhaven. In a final clash beneath the earth, they faced a warped dragon and a treacherous spy. On the brink of annihilation with the majority of the party incapacitated, one hero struck the Prism and shattered it. The explosion consumed its magic forever.
They emerged scarred, empty-handed, but alive. The world was spared an ancient evil—but Dawnspire lost one of its last hopes for power.
The Blockade Run
Under Captain Hargraves' command, a team of adventurers were charged with escorting Lorien Dawnwright, the High Steward of Dawnspire, through the Thornhaven blockade to Valloria to plead for aid.Reconnaissance revealed that the bay was guarded by two ships: a massive five-masted warship and a privateer lurking in the fog. When stealth failed, the druids turned skyward. With summoned giant eagles bearing oil and gunpowder, they launched a series of breathtaking aerial kamikaze-esque strikes. The first wave crippled the warship; the second set the privateer ablaze.
In the smoke of their success, the adventurers boarded the damaged privateer and captured it after a furious melee. They then attempted to ram and finish the Thornhaven flagship—but the shot that should have sunk it went wide. Thornhaven’s counterattack was immediate and overwhelming.
Lorien Dawnwright surrendered to save his people. Chunks was captured trying to flee. Ultimately, all were imprisoned aboard the smoldering Thornhaven flagship.
Some of Dawnspire’s greatest heroes—and its High Steward—are now captives of its most ruthless foe.
