Dawnspire Session 3 Recap – War on the Horizon?
Lorien Dawnwright summoned the adventurers for a covert mission—one that could not officially be tied to Dawnspire, as the implications would risk open war with Thornhaven.
Intelligence revealed that Thornhaven was behind political destabilization efforts in Dawnspire, spreading propaganda and injecting counterfeit currency to manipulate inflation. Their operation was traced to Tidewatch Isle, southeast of the city, where they were coordinating with Elias Thornmere, a cloth merchant, to further the plot.
The mission:
Neutralize or sink the Thornhaven warship at sea
Intercept the propaganda and counterfeit coins exchange on Tidewatch Isle
Eliminate or capture those involved
Do not be discovered as Dawnspire agents
Through a daring, well-timed and coordinated naval and ground assault, the adventurers pulled off a remarkable victory:
At sea, three ships executed a surprise ambush, showcasing Dawnspire’s naval prowess. They defeated much of the enemy crew, including throwing a mage overboard, and kidnapped the ship’s captain, tipping the scales in their favor.
On land, the plan hinged on a tunnel discovered between Dawnspire and Tidewatch. Though secrecy was compromised, the adventurers adapted quickly, drawing the Thornhaven operatives into the tunnel. A fierce battle followed, ending with support from sea-based cannon fire and a follow up beach assault. After the sea team arrived with the captured Thornhaven naval captain (Captain Elreld Thornwarden), who ordered surrender, the remaining Thornhaven operatives were detained: Elias Thornmere, a powerful mage named Azhar the Inkwoven, and a Thornhaven marine.
Victory came at a cost—the captured Thornhaven ship is damaged, but valuable, and four prisoners now remain. Their fate—and Dawnspire’s next move—is uncertain. What will the adventurers do with them? And how will Thornhaven respond?
